Two-Day National Conference ยท Department of Economics & Finance, BITS Pilani Goa
The implementation of GST on 1 July 2017 marked a transformative milestone in India's fiscal history. Conceived under the principle of "One Nation, One Tax," GST sought to unify India's fragmented indirect tax system, eliminate cascading taxation, and create a seamless national market.
The recent rationalisation of tax slabs โ moving toward 5% (merit) and 18% (standard), effective 22 September 2025 โ represents a significant step toward transparency, compliance, and efficiency. The ITC mechanism has strengthened value-chain neutrality, while the Composition Scheme has reduced compliance burdens for small enterprises up to โน1.5 crore turnover.
This ICSSR-sponsored national conference brings together scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to critically examine the multifaceted impact of next-generation GST reforms and their implications for MSMEs, start-ups, and regional industries in India.
Original, unpublished abstracts and full papers are invited for presentation at the conference. Contributions addressing allied and interdisciplinary areas relevant to GST reforms and economic policy are also encouraged.
Conference language is English. All submissions must be original and unpublished.
